401(k) investment oversight, with reports that explain the reasoning.

We monitor your plan's funds, review them each quarter and explain our recommendations and any decisions made under your agreement.

What happens between quarterly reviews

Your investment lineup is the menu of funds available through your plan. Main to Mill keeps watch over those investments between formal quarterly reviews. We consider costs and performance in context and document our recommendations about the lineup, and our decisions where your agreement gives us that authority. Graham Mull personally leads the advisory relationship, so you know who to contact when a question comes up.

What the quarterly report covers

Each quarter, you get a report with our findings, fund scores, recommendations and any decisions or changes covered by your agreement. It explains what we looked at and why. You can reach us with questions between reviews.

What does a 3(38) investment manager do?

A 3(38) investment manager has authority to make the investment decisions covered by its appointment, including selecting, monitoring and replacing plan funds. The manager must meet the legal qualifications for the role and accept its fiduciary responsibility in writing. Navigate 401K, LLC can serve as a 3(38) investment manager when engaged to do so. Your agreement names who takes on that responsibility and which investments and decisions it covers.

Does a 3(38) manager take on all of your responsibility?

No. You still have to choose the manager carefully and monitor its work. Quarterly reports can help you review that work. Ask your advisers what else your monitoring process should include. The 3(38) role does not automatically cover plan administration or choosing investments for each employee's account.

Where investment oversight fits with your other providers

Investment oversight is one part of supporting your plan. Recordkeeping, administration and employee education also need clear responsibilities. We define our work in your advisory agreement so you can see how it fits alongside your recordkeeper and third-party administrator, or TPA. If your questions extend to provider costs or service, fee benchmarking can help put those in context.

Start with the information you have.

Bring your current investment lineup, recent investment review reports and advisory agreement. If your plan has an investment policy statement, include that too. Add the questions you want answered: who makes fund decisions, what gets documented and how you hear about changes. Our review process explains the starting point.

Know who is looking after your plan’s investments.

In a free plan review, we'll look at how your plan's investments are overseen today and the questions you want answered. Ongoing investment management is a separate engagement, with its scope, fees and responsibilities set out in your agreement.
